Sonic Hedgehog is the fastest thing alive on Mobius. As a child in Mobotropolis, his parents abandoned him before he could remember. So, he lived with his uncle, Sir Charles Hedgehog. He was also best friends with Princess Sally, Bunnie, Rotor & Antoine.
Since Robotnik's coup, Sonic has been one of the most active Freedom Fighters to date. He fights with extra speed from his Uncle Chuck's invention, the power rings. In or out of battle, Sonic always has a cocky attitude. He is of average intelligence, but prefers to just jump into a situation than to think up a plan. This often gets him into trouble, and if not for Princess Sally, now his girlfriend, Sonic would've probably killed himself by now. Out of battle, Sonic enjoys listening to music, hanging out with Tails & scarfing down lots of chili dogs, his favorite food.

As a fox cub, Miles was abandoned by his parents in Robotropolis. He was found shortly thereafter by Sonic, who took him back to Knothole. Once there, everyone was shocked to notice that Miles had not one, but TWO tails! Thus he was given the name "Tails", which stuck with him ever since.
Sonic did his best to raise Tails like a brother. As a result, Tails became obsessed with Sonic. He sees Sonic as his hero, following and idolizing him constantly.
As the youngest of the Freedom Fighters, Tails is treated like a little kid, which he absolutely hates. He's also subject to occasional flirting from the girls. Through the use of his two tails, Tails can fly like a helicopter. Though he's not allowed to go on most missions, his flying ability has been a help to the team on more than one occasion.
Princess Sally Alicia of the House of Acorn is her full name and title. She lived a happy life in Mobotropolis with her father, King Acorn. But when Robotnik started the coup, King Acorn was thrown into the Zone of Silence, and Princess Sally, only 5 at the time, was forced to flee to Knothole with her nanny Rosie, her mentor Julayla, and her childhood friends Sonic, Bunnie, Rotor and Antoine.
After years of study and training that followed in Knothole, Sally founded and became the leader of the Freedom Fighters. She is incredibly intelligent, & always has plans ready for any situation. She has access to all of the information on Mobius courtesy of her hand held computer, NICOLE. Sally is very athletic & agile, excelling in gymnastics & Karate. Sally is also Sonic's girlfriend, & she often has to keep Sonic's ego in check. Yet Sally's goals are always clear: Defeat Robotnik; Rescue her father from the Zone of Silence; Restore Mobotropolis, the planet Mobius & all Mobians roboticized by Robotnik.
Antoine was born the son of the Captain of the Royal Guard. He grew learning the ways of the guard so that he could one day be like his father. This dream came to a crashing halt when Robotnik launched his coup.
Ever since the coup, Antoine has grown up to be a wimp and a coward. While being the oldest of the Freedom Fighters, he is taken the least seriously because of his cowardice. He's also extremely stubborn, always trying to act heroic, even though his efforts fall short. Antoine always tries to impress Princess Sally in an attempt to win her heart. Unfortunately, Sally's heart belongs to Sonic, so Antoine is left fighting another hopeless battle. In combat, Antoine will deploy some of the sword skills that his father taught him, provided he can muster enough courage to use them. Otherwise, he'll just wimper forever in his unintelligible French accent.

Bunnie is one of Princess Sally's long-time best friends, even dating back to before Robotnik's coup in 3224. A few years later, Bunnie was captured by Robotnik and was set to be roboticized. Sonic rescued her midway through the process. As a result, only her legs and left arm were roboticized, a scar she's lived with ever since.
Bunnie is kindest and high-spirited of the Freedom Fighters despite her robotic limbs. Being from the Southern Provinces, she has a Southern accent and hospitality which augment her kindness. Her limbs give her tremendous strength and other abilities which have been helpful to the team in the past. She is also a master of Kung Fu & possesses good leadership skills.
Ever since he was a kid in Mobotropolis, Rotor has always proven one thing: He is a mechanical genius. Over the years, Rotor has put together all sorts of machines for all different purposes. Several of his devices have proved useful in battle. Outside of combat, Rotor has proven to be a relatively shy person. He usually doesn't enjoy being a hero. He prefers to just be a handyman.
Dulcy is the last of the dragon race on Mobius, the rest having died or been roboticized by Robotnik. She is capable of flight and is usually the preferred method of transportation on most missions. However, while she can fly, like The Greatest American Hero, her landings leave much to be desired. Offensively, she attacks with both fire and ice breath. Outside of battle, Dulcy is quite a ditz. She tries to invoke humor at the wrong times, and she doesn't always have the greatest memory. Still, she's a powerful asset to the team.
Not much is known about Geoffrey's past. This skunk emerged as the leader of a recon group called the Rebel Underground. Supposedly, this was King Acorn's secret service. Today, he uses his skills to aid the Freedom Fighters. He is agile, and fights mainly with a wrist crossbow which fires arrows (or bolts), bolas, and other various items.
Geoffrey has shown a love for Sally and is usually NOT afraid to show it, even in front of Sonic! He also doesn't enjoy Sonic's attitude, & the two are often found verbally and physically trying to show each other up. Their duels continue to this date.
Knuckles is the guardian of the Floating Island and the Chaos Emerald that keeps it afloat, a duty handed down from generation to generation in his family. Knuckles is a strong fighter, capable of climbing, digging, and punching with his barbed fists. However, he tends to act like Sonic, not using his head & just fighting through a situation. He carries a grudging respect & distrust toward Sonic, which earned him the title of "Sonic's Friendly Nemesis". Knuckles is also the leader of a group of Freedom Fighters called the Chaotix, who are sworn to protect the Floating Island from all who would do it harm.
Vector is the party-member of the Chaotix. Everywhere he goes, he is NEVER seen without his traditional walkman blasting his favorite tunes. Still, he's tough in battle, with a killer attitude to match. Outside of combat, Vector can easily be found lying around, eating, partying, you name it.
Mighty is the strong arm of the Chaotix. His strength is matched only by Knuckles, and he is usually called on for the big jobs just like Bunnie. He is occasionally quick to anger, but he manages to keep his temper under control thanks to Charmy. Still, outside of battle, he can have just as much fun as the rest of the boys.
Espio is a key member to the Chaotix's battles on the Floating Island. He relies on stealth and secrecy through his ability to blend into his surrondings and becoming totally invisible. (Hey, he's a chameleon, what'd you expect? :-) Not much is known about him otherwise, as he's kind of hard to find, literally. Even his treehouse is invisible! Beats me.
Being a bee, Charmy is obviously the smallest of the Chaotix, and in some people's opinion, the cutest. It can definitely be said that he has the biggest heart of the team. He can be the voice of reason as well, and will occasionally try to calm down Mighty's large temper. Mighty is Charmy's best friend, and the two are often found together.
Years ago, in the time of the Great War, a man named Julian was marked for death by his fellow Overlanders on the grounds of betrayal. With nowhere to go, he turned to King Maximillian Acorn. Feeling that he could bring victory to the Mobians, King Acorn appointed Julian as Warlord in exchange for his knowledge of the Overlander armies. With Julian's charge, the Mobians won the Great War.
In 3224, the last day of the Great War, King Acorn ordered the dismantling of the War Ministry and Julian's appointment to Minister of Science. Julian, however, had other plans. He stole the plans for the roboticizer from Sir Charles Hedgehog, and launched a coup on all of Mobotropolis. Rechristened Ivo Robotnik, he banished King Acorn to the Zone of Silence, and took over the now rechristened Robotropolis.
Robotnik now continues to attempt to rule all of Mobius. He uses the roboticizer as his weapon, turning the good people of Mobius into his robotic slaves. He also has an endless army of SWATbots to carry out his evil intentions. However, world domination has one roadblock: the Freedom Fighters, as well as Robotnik's nemesis, Sonic the Hedgehog.
Snively is Robotnik's nephew. He assisted Robotnik in his takeover of Mobius at the end of the Great War. Now, he is Robotnik's second-in-command in Robotropolis. However, the term "lackey" sometimes fits Snively better. He has more technical and computer skills than Robotnik does, and often comes up with the plans, but Robotnik winds up taking all the credit, and leaves Snively with all the blame when the plans go awry. At the same time, his long nose and nasal voice often leaves him subject to ridicule from Sonic and the Freedom Fighters.
Outside of dealing with Robotnik's wrath (and often Sonic's teasing), Snively wishes for the day that his uncle is defeated by the Freedom Fighters. Then, he can take over for himself.
Ixis Naugus is a sorceror extraordinare. In the time of the Great War, he was the royal wizard in Mobotropolis during King Maximillian Acorn's rule. Some time later, following Julian's arrival and acceptance as Warlord, Naugus created a new and strange dimension called the Zone of Silence. Naugus allied himself with Julian to assist him in determining its properties. However, Julian betrayed him, and trapped him in the Zone, where Julian had also sent his former mentor, Warlord Kodos. Soon after, they were joined by King Acorn. The three have resided in the Zone ever since.
Naugus has a deep hatred for Robotnik, and seeks revenge against him for his betrayal. At the same time, he secretly wishes to be the one who rules all of Mobius. However, he must first escape the Zone of Silence in order to acheive his goals.
Nack the Weasel is a bounty hunter, thief, and all around criminal. He roams the earth on his sky cycle looking for the most valuable items on Mobius so that he can become rich by selling them on the black market. In addition, Nack will frequently sell his services to the highest bidder, doing whatever evil intentions his employers have in mind. And Nack will do it, so long as he is paid when he gets the job done. Nack has been employed by Robotnik on several occasions in the past, and has frequently been a thorn in the side of both Sonic and Knuckles.
When Robotnik launched his coup and took over Mobotropolis, he began a mission to take over the entire planet of Mobius, roboticizing and destroying everything in sight. However, as he took over, people eventually tried to fight back. To stop the people from retaking the land he conquered, he needed to have sub-bosses located within those certain areas of the planet that he captured. Upon capturing the area of Downunda, he created a crocodile robot as the sub-boss for that region. Thus, Crocbot was born.
Crocbot rules Downunda with an iron claw. He frequently deploys his robotic winged dingoes to reak havoc on the land and to intruders of his base. Within, he has several machines of his own which he uses, including the CD Rom Ram, and the tank armor that he fitted himself with following his first defeat at the hands of Tails and the Downunda Freedom Fighters. In addition, he frequently uses SWATbots and COMbots that were sent to him by Robotnik for assistance.
However, deep within, Crocbot's personal mission extends to more than Downunda. Once he succeeds in crushing the Downunda resistance, Crocbot intends to use Robotnik's SWATbots and COMbots as his own personal army. With that army, he plans to oust Robotnik as the seat of power in Robotropolis, and eventually take over all of Mobius himself.
In the time of the Great War, Kodos was the Warlord of the military under King Maximillian Acorn. He was chosen as Warlord for his size, exceptional strength and military tactics, and his deep hatred for all Overlanders. His hatred for Overlanders also won him a friend in then royal wizard Ixis Naugus.
Some time later, Julian came under the wing of the Mobians after being marked for death by the Overlanders. King Acorn saw it best that Julian assume the position of Warlord from there on. However, despite his hatred for Overlanders, Kodos became Julian's mentor, teaching him his tactics for success.
Then came Julian's betrayal of the kingdom. When Julian sided himself with Naugus to experiment with the Zone of Silence, Julian sent Kodos into the Zone first. Julian later used Kodos' secret plans of betraying the kingdom to his own advantage. As for Kodos himself, he lies in the Zone of Silence with his old ally, Ixis Naugus, waiting for the day when he can escape.
Crabmeat, Moto Bug, Caterkiller, Ball Hog, Bat Brain, Buzzbomber, Splats, Jaws, Burrobot & Orbinaut. These robots of all shapes and sizes were the original rank and file Robotnik's army in his early efforts to crush the Freedom Fighter resistance.
In the midst of creating an army of robots to crush the resistance, Robotnik sought to create a special series of robots that stood above the rest, ones that would surely succeed where his other robots failed. The results of this project, however, weren't quite what the doctor was looking for.
The project resulted in these 3 robots, which were christened the Super Special Sonic Search & Smash Squad. However, these robots could do anything BUT search and smash. Scratch, a tall mechanical chicken, and Grounder, an advanced burrobot, tried their best to impress Robotnik by trying to capture Sonic. However, they always failed because they were always falling for Sonic's disguises, or because they were forever arguing with each other as to who was the better robot.
Coconuts the monkey robot, tried just as hard to impress Robotnik. However, he was not utilized as much. He was left to cleanup duty around Robotropolis while Scratch and Grounder were sent to get Sonic. This made Coconuts go out on his own several times to try and prove himself. His efforts, however, were just as bumbled as the others.
Overall, it did not take too long for Robotnik to realize that these robots were not the answer to his problems.
