Sonic TV

Sonic the Hedgehog has hit the airwaves!

Over the hedgehog's historic career, DiC Productions has released several cartoon series featuring the Blue Blur. The first two were released in 1993: One was a syndicated, 65-show weekday series which has been in reruns on several syndicated markets over the years, while the other was on Saturday mornings on ABC for 2 seasons and introduced the world to the Freedom Fighters. This version of the series was finally released in a DVD box set in March 2007, and has been the basis of the Archie Comic series since its inception in 1993 as well.

In later years, two more series were launched as well. In 1999, a one-season alternate telling of the Sonicverse called Sonic Underground was released in syndication. Later, a new version which more closely mirrored the current generation of SEGA games was released called Sonic X. Originally from Japan, it aired in the U.S. for 3 years in original episodes on Fox, and has remained in reruns from time to time since.

The Sat AM series is the focus of this page. It was a great cartoon, but the fact that it was constantly up against Power Rangers led to its cancellation on a cliffhanger. For those of you out there who do not have the DVD set, or have never read the comic, you might be wondering what this version of Sonic is all about, and why this version is regarded by many Sonic animation fans as the best of all so let me get you familiar.
